CompanionSteps Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 19, 2026

CompanionSteps is a step counter and GPS path recorder for iPhone and Apple Watch. It has no accounts, no servers, no analytics and no advertising. Nothing is sent to the developer. The same policy is shown in the app under Settings › Privacy policy.

Apple Health

CompanionSteps reads steps, walking and running distance, flights climbed, active energy, walking speed, step length, heart rate and workouts from Apple Health on your device, to show your progress, history, badges, insights, pace and step length. Only if you connect them in Insights, it also reads sleep, time in daylight, resting and walking heart rate, cardio fitness, walking steadiness, the six-minute walk, stair speed, stand hours and date of birth (for heart-rate zones only), to compare them with your steps. Walks, runs and hikes you record are saved to Apple Health with their GPS route. Health data is never used for advertising and never shared with third parties.

Location

Your location is used while you record, to draw and save the route in Apple Health. It isn't stored anywhere else.

Stored on your devices

Your goal, units, reminder settings, walk soundtrack links, detected travel days, per-day places and cached weather are stored on your device. Goal and units are sent to your paired Apple Watch. GPX files are only created when you tap Export GPX, and CSV files only when you tap Export data (Pro). Both go only where you send them. Opening a YouTube or podcast link leaves CompanionSteps and follows that app's privacy policy.

Purchases

Pro subscriptions are processed by Apple. CompanionSteps receives no payment details; the app only checks with Apple whether your subscription is active.

What CompanionSteps does not do

Your choices

Change Health access in the Health app (Sharing › Apps › CompanionSteps) and location access in Settings › CompanionSteps › Location. Deleting the app removes its local data. Workouts saved to Apple Health stay there until you delete them in the Health app.

Children

CompanionSteps is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
